Clarence Muffin wasn't a brave man. Infact, he was just down right cowardly. It seems that the town bully, Mr. T.N.T. Jones, was on the prod and had sworn that he was out to get Clarence but good. Why, Clarence was so scared that he didn't even have enough courage to run away.
It was about this time that Clarence first met the Little Voice. As he lay meditating beneath his bed one night he was quite surprised to hear from out of nowhere, "Show some courage, Clarence! You can't run all your life."
Clarence just about jumped out of his skin but he attributed the voice to his shaky nerves. Hardly had his shaky nerves been settled than he heard again this mysterious voice, "Courage. That's all you need. Get yourself in shape. Show some courage and meet that big bully in fair combat."
Well somehow the Little Voice inspired some confidence in Clarence. It wasn't very long before our would be hero was hard at work and training his muscles for the coming contest. And every time he turned around there was the Little Voice enflating his confidence with, "That's it. Courage and training."
It got so that Clarence started saying it over and over to himself. Until every where that Clarence went so did the Little Voice with his pep talks.
It was some few weeks later that Clarence recieved his last pice of advice from the Little Voice. They were walking down the street when around a corner quite by surprise came T. N. T. Jones. Clarence took a deep breath and just about the time Mr. Jones' fist lit on the jaw of our hero, he heard the Little Voice scream, "Run! Clarence! Run!"
